TEACHING YOUTH COMPASSION AND RESPONSIBILITY

At Paw Justice, one of our goals is to teach young Kiwis about compassion and responsibilities towards animals. We believe that the prevention of animal abuse and cruelty starts with change within our society, and a key place to start is with our youth, the future generation of our country.

ALL ANIMALS MATTER

Paw Justice wants to help our youth understand that all creatures matter, not just those that are easy to love (the cute and fluffy ones), but all animals. We want to educate the young and empower them to make change in their homes, schools and communities.

YOUTH OPINION MATTERS

We empower them by encouraging them to participate in our “Show the Paw to Change the Law” petition. This petition calls for harsher sentences for animal abusers. By participating in this petition, we’re able to show our children that their opinion does matter and that they can make a difference.

“I LOVE MY DOG” EDUCATION

Paw Justice worked with Angela Smith, author of children’s book, “I Love My Dog” (released in 2012) to make Animal Education an everyday part of our children’s lives. By doing so, we aim to instil in them a sense of compassion and empathy towards our animals an ensure they treat all animals with respect.

DOG SAFETY WITH BARKLEY MANOR

Paw Justice has also set up a youth education programme in conjunction with Barkley Manor, a doggy day-care organisation, and dog and puppy training school. Children are taught the basic dog safety rules and about general dog behaviour. A key aim of this is to reduce the number of horrific dog attacks on our children, which occur regularly, often as a result of lack of understanding and education about dogs.

CHILDREN WANT TO BE HEARD

Our work with the youth of New Zealand has been immensely rewarding, with children right across the county responding, letting us know they want to be heard.

Paw Justice Achievement Awards presented to the children at Oranga Primary School for their pictures and art contributions for our children’s education book, “I Love My Dog”.

The book is about learning empathy, love and understanding around animals. A BIG thank you to the children and the school for getting involved.
